(From Newspaper Clipping) "As general manager of Oakland's parks department i the 1950s, William Penn Mott Jr. came up with many ideas to attract families to city parks. Peralta Playland, along the channel where tidal waters flow in an out of Lake Merritt, featured this rocket ship attraction, called the Star Flyer, during the height of the "space race" craze."
